Over course of two months, I documented over 100 masks disposed of on the streets of Vancouver, British Columbia. These were collected purely by chance, I did not go out in search of them.

The Covid-19 pandemic is estimated to generate up to 7,200 tons of medical waste every day, much of which is disposable masks.” – MIT News

Disposable masks are clogging our streets and putting wildlife at risk of injury and harm.

Working in wildlife rehabilitation, I saw first-hand the impacts of improperly discarded trash: a plastic ring stuck around a duck’s neck, a fishing line entangling a goose’s feet, a cup lid stuck on a gull’s head.

To draw attention to this issue, I created a campaign around practicing proper PPE disposal to share with an audience of wildlife lovers through Wildlife Rescue’s social media accounts.
